Deaf studies minor to be cut after Fall 2025

Ithaca College’s Deaf studies minor has been put on an administrative pause and is currently not accepting more students for the foreseeable future. The three ASL professors at the college are being laid off after the Fall 2025 semester. According to professors in the program, this minor has proven itself popular among students in and out of the Speech Language Pathology and Audiology Department, where the program is housed. 
First-year student Glenda-Avril Galloway, member of Sister 2 Sister, hosted a dress competition at the Lotus Banquet. After contestants showed off their dresses on the runway, they cheered as Galloway and co-host junior Noeline Luyindula took the reins in a mock-runway.

The shifting focus on AI in education is not solely in higher education. According to a 2024 AIPRM report, 54% of grade school students use AI tools for schoolwork with around 60% of grade school teachers claiming to integrate it into their teaching plans. 
IC focuses on increased artificial intelligence initiatives for educational and departmental use

Throughout the 2024-25 academic year, Ithaca College has placed an increased focus on artificial intelligence initiatives and AI education across campus, with the Presidential Working Group on AI formulating recommendations and guidelines for the use and implementation of AI. They have been working on a plan of six deliverables, which will be presented to the Board of Trustees for approval in May.

SGC holds open house to hear student feedback

The Ithaca College Student Governance Council hosted an open house April 14 instead of a regular meeting session. SGC recorded that 75 students came to learn about the council, share concerns, participate in a raffle and eat from an Indian buffet.

IC Students for Palestine organizes rally in support of non-citizen student activists

On April 12, Ithaca College Students for Palestine led an event in front of the Campus Center at Free Speech Rock. The event was titled “ICE Off Campus,” in dedication and support of pro-Palestinian activists who have been threatened with deportation, targeted and detained in the U.S.

Lisa Corewyn, associate professor in the Department of Biology and coordinator of the anthropology minor at Ithaca College, and Kari Brossard Stoos, microbiologist and associate professor in the Department of Health Sciences and Public Health, are studying a population of mantled howler monkeys.
The spring sports season has provided strong performances by many first-year student athletes across Ithaca College athletics. Ivan Kisic of the men's tennis team has stepped up for the program thus far.
