Baseball: Stellar pitching spurs Bombers’ home sweep

The baseball team (21–8–1 overall, 10—4 Empire 8) swept its doubleheader Saturday against the Stevens Institute of Technology (20—15 overall, 5—8 Empire 8) on Freeman Field. The Bombers were led by solid pitching, which held the Ducks to just two runs combined in both games. The Bombers won the first game 5–1 and the second 11–1.

Freshman pitcher Jimmy Wagner started on the mound for the Bombers in game one, giving up one run on four hits while striking out six batters during 5 and 1/3 innings of work. Senior pitcher Tucker Healy pitched the final 1 and 2/3 innings to earn his fourth save.

Senior right fielder Teagen Barresi and sophomore third baseman Colby Gee carried the offense in the first game, both registering two hits. Gee also added two RBI.

In the second game, freshman pitcher John Prendergast tossed a complete game, holding the Ducks to just one run on eight hits while striking out five batters. The Blue and Gold offense exploded in the second game, as they recorded 15 hits on the way to piling up 11 runs. Senior second baseman Matt Keller highlighted the offensive performance as he went 3-for-3 from the plate while driving in three runs.

The South Hill squad closes its series with Stevens today at 1 p.m. on Freeman Field.
