Blue and Gold continue win streak

The softball team stretched its winning streak to five games in two wins against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute yesterday in a double header at Kostrinsky Field.
The Bombers won the first game 10–2, ending the games in five innings after the mercy rule came into affect. The mercy rule also came into play in the second game as the Bombers won 8–0 in six innings. The Blue and Gold hit a school-record five home runs in the two games, including a team-high four in the opener.
Freshman Molly O’Donnell hit the first home run of her career — a three-run home run in the third inning of the opening game — to erase a 1–0 Red Hawk lead. Juniors Kait Dolan and Brittany Lillie both hit two-run shots in the fourth. Senior Caitlin Ryan ended the game with her eighth-career home run.
Junior captain Allison Greaney brought her record to 5–1 with the win as she only allowed four hits and two runs in a complete game of work. She did not give up a walk and struck out three.
In the second game, senior Alyssa Brook improved to 2–1 after retiring the last 11 batters she faced in a two-hit shutout. Brook fanned six batters and walked one in six innings of work.
Freshman Jennifer Biondi also went yard for the first time in her career Saturday. The two-run shot ended the game and gave the Bombers’ the victory.
The South Hill squad’s doubleheader scheduled for today has been postponed.
