Bombers win back-to-back with 7–1 victory

Junior left fielder Rob Zappia stepped up to the plate in the top of the fourth inning with senior catcher Mike Armstrong on third and two outs.
Armstrong had just stolen second and advanced to third on a passed ball. Zappia brought him home with a double to right field and the Bombers took a 2–1 lead over Stevenson University. The Bombers never looked back, defeating the Mustangs 7–1.
The Blue and Gold are now 2–7 on the season and have won two in a row after losing their first seven contests.
While the South Hill squad added another run in the fourth and four more in the seventh, the story of the day was senior pitcher and captain Tom Fishback. Fishback threw a complete game, giving up seven hits, one unearned run and two walks, while striking out seven.
Armstrong and Zappia were two of five Ithaca batters to record multiple hits on the day. Armstrong went 2-4, while Zappia 2-6. Junior first baseman Trevor Wolf went 3-4, senior right fielder T.J. Abone went 2-4, and junior designated hitter Matt Streich added two, going 2-4.
This is an impressive win for the Bombers because Stevenson came into this game 12–5 on the season. The Blue and Gold will look to make it three consecutive wins as they go up against University of Mary Washington at 1 p.m. today in Fredericksburg, Va.
