The football team opened up Empire 8 conference play Saturday afternoon at Salisbury University with a 21-7 loss to the Seagulls.
It was Salisbury’s first game in the Empire 8 conference since they joined exclusively for football this year.
Sophomore running back Sal Sulla led the team on offense for the South Hill squad, running for 52 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Senior captain Dan Ruffrage also caught five passes for 44 yards.
On defense senior linebacker Joe Gilfedder tallied 14 tackles and junior free safety Josh Liemer had 10 tackles.
The Seagulls controlled the ball for 37:25 to the Bombers’ 22:35 utilizing a flexbone option offense, running the ball 60 times for a net total of 309 yards and 19 first downs on the ground.
The Blue and Gold return to action next Saturday at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y.
