Gymnastics competes at Big Red Invitational

The Ithaca College women’s gymnastics team placed fourth out of four teams at the Big Red Invitational at Cornell University. Cornell placed first with 194.450 points, Bridgeport took second with 193.225 points and SUNY Brockport finished third with 189.550 points. The Bombers scored 189.150 points, which was their highest score since 2015 when they scored 190.125 in a meet against SUNY Cortland.

The Bombers set their new team record on the vault with a 47.850, which was 0.225 points better than their previous record from 2011. Sophomore Carolyn Nichols debuted a new vault that had never been performed at the Division III level and scored a 9.725, which earned her fourth place. Freshman Baylie Trammell scored in the top 10 with her careerbest vault with a 9.650. Sophomore Victoria Gery placed 11th and scored her own careerbest of 9.625.

On the uneven bars, Trammell tied for eighth place with a score of 9.575 and junior Danielle Maffuid tied for 12th place with a score of 9.525. Both scores were career bests.

Juniors Kendra Balcerak and Hannah Donnelly scored their season bests on the balance beam and finished in 12th and 13th, respectively. Balcerak earned a 9.650 and Donnelly earned a 9.625. Freshman Paige Landes finished 14th and scored her career best with a 9.600.

On the floor, Gery and fellow sophomore Amy Thomas tied for 18th place with scores of 9.600, both of their career bests.

The Bombers return to action at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 15 when they travel to SUNY Cortland for the Beauty and the Beast meet.
