Gymnastics loses first dual meet of the season

The Ithaca College  gymnastics team lost by just over seven points in its first dual meet against SUNY Brockport 189.975–182.300 Feb. 4.

There were several impressive performances on the vault, which resulted in a 46.800, the team’s highest vault score of the season. Sophomore Carolyn Nichols scored her career best of 9.600, a tenth of a point higher than her previous best of 9.500. Freshman Baylie Trammell had a score of 9.350 and finished fifth. Junior Kaylee Pacunas finished sixth with a 9.325 and sophomore Maggie Verrette scored a 9.275.

The team’s score of 46.450 on the uneven parallel bars was also a season high. Junior Danielle Maffuid tied for fifth place with a score of 9.425, while her teammates, junior Mina Shernan and Trammell tied for seventh with a score of 9.400.

Sophomore Nina Bustamante scored a 9.300 on beam to score fifth and freshman Paige Landes finished behind her in sixth place with a score of 9.050. The overall team score on the beam was 43.900, the team’s season low.

On the floor, sophomore Tori Gery finished fifth with a score of 9.350, freshman Emily Szembrot finished seventh with a score of 9.150 and junior Melissa Hollrigl finished eighth with a score of 9.100.

The Bombers will compete again at the Cornell Invitational at 1 p.m. Feb. 11 at Cornell University in Ithaca.
