Men’s Basketball: Empire 8 Conference opener snaps Bombers’ losing streak

The men’s basketball team ended a three-game skid Friday by defeating visiting St. John Fisher College (7–5, 0–1 Empire 8) 71-65.

The Blue and Gold had lost three consecutive games by three points or less heading into 2012. The team’s win was the first in almost a month.

Sophomore forward and center Frank Mitchell led the Bombers with 24 points and added eight rebounds. Three players posted career high numbers for the Bombers — sophomore guard Christian Jordan sunk 17 points, junior guard Jordan Healey gathered eight rebounds and freshman guard Max Masucci netted seven points.

The South Hill squad battled back from a seven-point deficit in the second half powered by its 47 percent shooting from the field. The Cardinals, meanwhile, shot just 33 percent in the second half.

The Bombers also utilized their big men in the second half, outscoring St. John Fisher 18-8 in the paint in the last 20 minutes of play.
