Men’s Lacrosse: Blue and Gold shock No. 21 St. John Fisher College with fourth-quarter surge

In a game where each team’s star players shined, it would be a third line midfielder who provided the game’s deciding goal in the men’s lacrosse team’s 12-11 win against 21st ranked St. John Fisher College yesterday in Rochester, N.Y.

Freshman midfielder Steve Danylyshyn picked up a rebound and scored his first goal of the season with 6:14 left in the fourth quarter to give the Bombers the 11-10 lead. Senior attack Tom Mongelli scored 1:14 later to stretch the lead to 12-10 before Fisher scored with 12 seconds left. Mongelli had a fourth quarter hat trick as part of a four-goal performance and now has 27 goals this season. Junior midfielder Connor Lowe recorded a hat trick as well.

The win makes the Blue and Gold the only remaining undefeated team in the Empire 8 Conference and gives them the Empire 8 lead with four games remaining.  They will host Utica College at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Higgins Stadium. The Pioneers fell out of the top four in the conference standings with their 23-7 loss to Stevens Institute of Technology yesterday.
