Men’s soccer: South Hill squad finishes season with loss

The men’s soccer team ended the 2010 season Saturday with a 1–0 loss to the Elmira College Soaring Eagles in Elmira, N.Y. Elmira sophomore forward Erik Lee found the back of the net with senior goalkeeper Justin Parlapiano out of position in the 19th minute to give Elmira the win.

Despite the loss, the Bombers outshot Elmira 22–16, including 16–5 in the second half. Senior midfielder and co-captain Jeff Geyer had a team-high three shots on goal and five total shots in his last game as a Bomber to finish the season with 50 shots. Parlapiano, also playing his last game in a Bomber uniform, saved five of the six Elmira shots he faced to finish the season with 82 saves. The loss was the Bombers’ first since losing 1–0 to Utica College on the road on Oct. 16.

The Blue and Gold, with the loss, finish the season with a record of 2–5 in Empire 8 play, 3–4–2 on the road and 4–8–4 overall. The Bombers also finished the season sixth in the Empire 8, behind the Rochester Institute of Technology and ahead of St. John Fisher College and Alfred University.
