Men’s swimming and diving: Blue and Gold win third straight meet

The men’s swimming and diving team continued its strong start to the season Saturday, beating SUNY-Cortland Red Dragons 174.5–125.5 in Cortland, N.Y. The Bombers are now 3–0 on the season and it’s the fourth straight season they have won at least one meet against the Red Dragons.

The Blue and Gold dominated the meet from the start, with the 400-yard medley relay team of junior Jeff Rapp, sophomore Jake Lichter, freshman Taylor Van Cott and junior Antoine Connors winning the squad’s first race of the day in 3:41.33. The Blue and Gold also won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:17.69 with the combination of sophomore Jake Robbins, co-captain and senior Steven Croucher, freshman John Carr and Connors.

The Bombers were also dominant in their individual events as well. Rapp came away with victories in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard individual medley, Lichter won the 100-yard breaststroke, Van Cott swept the 100- and 200-yard butterflies and Connors won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events. Rounding out the Bombers’ individual swimming wins, freshman Cheffy Thomas won in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Senior Mike Glicini finished the meet by winning the 3-meter diving event with a score of 240.05 for the Bombers’ only diving victory of the day.

The Bombers return to action at noon on Nov. 20 against Hamilton College, Hartwick College and SUNY-Geneseo in Clinton, N.Y.
