Softball: Bombers win four in big weekend

In four games this weekend, the softball team went a perfect 4–0 in its two doubleheaders against Elmira College and SUNY-Buffalo yesterday and today. With the wins against Elmira, the Bombers secured at least a tie for the regular-season Empire 8 title.

In their first matchup against Elmira, the Blue and Gold shut out their conference foes 4–0 before taking the down in the nightcap 4–1.

On Sunday in Ithaca, the Bombers squeaked out a 1–0 win over the Bengals. Junior Allison Greaney got the nod in the first game, allowing only three hits through five innings of work. She did not allow a single runner to pass second base whiel striking out six and walking one for her 11th victory of the year.

The Bombers got on board right away, and essentially won the game in the first inning. Junior Kait Dolan led off the bottom half of the first with a double. Junior Brittany Lillie hit a single that advanced Dolan to third before junior Kerry Barger singled up the middle to knock in the game’s only run.

In game two, the Bombers jumped out to a 3–0 lead in the first inning. Dolan led off with a single and scored on a sacrifice bunt by senior Caitlin Ryan that the Bengals made an error on. Lillie then singled in Ryan before freshman Molly O’Donnell reached on an error, which allowed Lillie to score.

On the mound, senior Alyssa Brook gave up only four hits through five innings while striking out three to pick up the win.

Lillie picked up the save in both games.

The South Hill squad wraps up its regular season schedule at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday against SUNY-Oneonta in Oneonta, N.Y.
