Volleyball: Blue and Gold split first day of conference crossover

The volleyball team split its matches on the opening day of the Empire 8 crossover at Elmira College, falling to Nazerath College 3-2 before sweeping Alfred University 3-0.

The Bombers held leads of 1-0 and 2-1, but the Golden Flyers won the final two sets of the match to take the victory.

Senior middle blocker Kate Thoene led the Blue and Gold with 19 kills for the match. Junior setter Marissa Woodcombe had 39 assists and sophomore libero Nicki Readie had 21 digs.

The South Hill squad bounced back from the five set loss to dispatch Alfred University in three quick sets. The Saxons only led in third set when they had an early 3-0 lead.

The Bombers conclude the Empire 8 crossover tomorrow with matches against Utica College and Elmira College.
