Volleyball: Bombers suffer home loss to SUNY-Cortland

The volleyball team came back from two sets down against 18th ranked SUNY-Cortland, but fell to the Red Dragons in the match’s finals set.

The match was tight from the start, with SUNY-Cortland pulling out the first set 28-26.

The Red Dragons got out to an early 6-2 lead in the second set on their way to taking it 25-17.

Cortland held a 13-8 lead in the third set but the Bombers stormed back to extend the match, winning the set 25-22. The fourth the set was tied at 22, but the Bombers won it with three straight points.

The final set was tied at 12 before the Red Dragons took the next three points to win the set and the match 15-12.

Senior outside hitter Chelsea Hayes led the Blue and Gold’s attack with a career high 22 kills and a team best 15 digs for the game. Three other Bombers posted double-doubles. Senior middle blocker Kate Thoene added 16 kills and a career high 10 blocks, senior middle blocker Karin Edsall had a career best 56 assists and 13 digs, and senior outside hitter Jessica Hoeffner posted 15 kills and 10 digs.

The South Hill squad will compete in the Lycoming Tip-Off Classic over the weekend in Williamsport, Pa.
