Women’s basketball defeats Utica College in close matchup

The Ithaca College women’s basketball team defeated the Utica College Pioneers 79–63 on Feb. 14. The victory stretched the Bombers winning streak to 10 games. With the win, the Blue and Gold improved their record to 21–3 and 13–2 in the Empire 8 Conference. The loss dropped Elmira to 6–18 and 4–11 in Empire 8.

The Bombers outscored the Pioneers in the first three quarters, but Elmira outscored the South Hill squad in the final quarter. For the Bombers, senior guard Ali Ricchiuti and junior guard Jordan Beers led the team with 16 points each, while junior forward and guard Julie Yacovoni contributed 15 points. Yacovoni and sophomore guard Annie Giannone led the team with five assists each. Yacovoni also led the team with two blocks.

Utica had four double-digit scorers, which consisted of junior guard Ashley Mayo (17 points), sophomore forward Rachel Hunter (17),  junior guard Ashelyne Babb (13) and senior guard Calypso Carty (12). Mayo also led the team with six assists and Babb led the team with four steals.

The South Hill Squad returns to action for their final game of regular season against Houghton College at 6 p.m. Feb. 16 in Ben Light Gymnasium.
