Women’s Cross-Country: Blue and Gold finish second at state championships

The women’s cross-country team had a strong showing in the New York State Collegiate Track Conference Championships yesterday, but finished second overall to host St. Lawrence University.

The Bombers placed their best seven runners in the top 25. Heidi Baumbach was the first Bomber to finish the five-kilometer race, as she took second place overall with a time of 19:01. This was not enough to catch the top runner, Saint Lawrence University senior Jenna Hulton, who finished first overall in 18:48. Hulton was the only runner at the meet to finish the race in less than 19 minutes.

After the Saints placed three more runners, Ithaca graduate student Alissa Kersey broke into the top 10, taking seventh place in a time of 19:28. Freshman Alexa Rick was the next Bomber to finish, earning 11th place in a time of 19:56.

Sophomore Molly Brown and freshman Anastasia Diamond finished 16th and 20th with times of 20:11 and 20:24 respectively.

Junior Carly Graham and senior captain Molly Quinn rounded out the top seven runners, taking 23rd and 25th respectively.

The Blue and will continue post season competition Saturday with the Empire 8 Conference Championships in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
