Women’s Golf: Squad places sixth at Mount Holyoke Invitational

The women’s golf team posted a second-round total of 326— a 16-stroke improvement from the first round — and placed sixth in a field of 14 teams at the Mount Holyoke Invitational this weekend at The Orchards in South Hadley, Mass. The 5,845 yard long, par-72 course was the site of the 2004 U.S. Women’s Open.

The invitational was highly competitive, with the top-three finishing teams in the tournament all ranking among the top-15 scoring teams in Division III golf.

Freshmen Sharon Li and Kelsey Baker led the charge for the Blue and Gold this weekend. Li led the Bombers in scoring and was tied for 10th overall with rounds of 83 and 78 for a 161 total score. Baker was one shot back at 162 on scores of 80 and 82. Sophomore Amanda Failla also had a solid second-round with a season-best score of 81.

The South Hill squad returns to action next weekend at SUNY-Cortland’s Martin/Wallace Invitational at Cortland Country Club.
