Women’s Lacrosse: Blue and Gold upend No. 19 Hamilton College

The women’s lacrosse team held off 19th-ranked Hamilton College 9-8 to defeat their second nationally ranked team of the season and win their eighth straight game Tuesday in Clinton, N.Y.

The game was tied on three different occasions but the Bombers only trailed once after the Continentals scored the first goal of the game. The Blue and Gold led 6-3 at halftime but the Continentals battled back to tie the game 8-8 with 11:52 remaining. Junior attack Tracy Rivas scored the game’s deciding goal, an unassisted shot, with 6:52 remaining.

The South Hill squad’s run of eight straight victories is its longest winning streak since 2003.

Rivas led the Bombers’ offense with three goals and two assists and moved into ninth place on the squad’s all-time points list. Senior attack Nicole Borisenok added two goals and an assist to move into second place all-time with 208 career points. Junior midfielder Nikki Dahl scored twice and junior midfielder Michelle Avery and sophomore attack Becky Guzzo added one goal apiece. Junior goalie Jess Worthman made five saves in goal to get the win.

The Blue and Gold will conclude regular season play and have a chance to run the table in the Empire 8 Conference when they take on Utica College at 3 p.m. Saturday in Higgins Stadium.
