Women’s Lacrosse: Squad prevails in one-goal contest against William Smith

The women’s lacrosse team took down visiting William Smith College 12-11 on Tuesday in Higgins Stadium to win its fifth straight game. The Bombers improved to 5—0 at home and are now 2—1 in one-goal games this season.

In a game full of momentum shifts, the Herons jumped out to a 4-1 before the Bombers scored five of the game’s next six goals to take a 6-5 lead at halftime. After the game was tied 6-6 early in the second half, the Blue and Gold took the lead on a goal from junior midfielder Kaitlyn Hoffay and would have the lead for the rest of the game.

The South Hill squad stretched its lead to 12-9 before the Herons scored two straight goals to bring them within one. William Smith had the ball back with a chance to force overtime in the game’s final minute, but the Bombers forced turnover to seal the victory.

Junior midfielder Nikki Dahl led the Bombers with four goals and two assists for a career high total of six points. Junior attack Tracy Rivas added four goals as well.

Junior Jess Worthman had seven saves in goal and senior midfielder Siobhan Sullivan forced a career-high four turnovers.

The Bombers return to Empire 8 Conference action Saturday when play the Soaring Eagles at Elmira College.
