Women’s Soccer: Blue and Gold draw at Elizabethtown, win Blue Jay Classic

Coming off an impressive come from behind victory over nationally ranked The College of New Jersey on Saturday, the women’s soccer team tied Elizabethtown yesterday at the Blue Jay Classic.

The Bombers had control early in the game, as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first 25 minutes. Sophomore forward Ellyn Grant-Keane scored the game’s first goal in the 8th minute and sophomore forward Jackie Rodabaugh scored the South Hill squad’s next goal 16 minutes later to give the Bombers the two-goal advantage.

The Blue Jays responded quickly though, scoring their first goal before halftime and getting the equalizer at the beginning of the second half to tie the game at two. Fortunately, the South Hill squad was able to get its defense together and maintain the draw the rest of the way.

The Bombers, who were the only team out of four not to lose a match over the weekend, were named tournament champions following the game. They will play Marywood University for their home opener at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
