Women’s swimming and diving competes at nationals

For sophomores Anna Belson and Katie Helly, who both picked up All-American honors at the 2016 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships from March 16–19 in Greensboro, North Carolina, it has been a season for the ages.

Coming off a second-place finish in the consolation final in the 3-meter diving event at last year’s nationals, she placed fourth in the event with a total of 448.5 points in the final to once again reach the podium. Belson’s point total in the final was just 30 points off the winner, Sarah Sheridan from Hope College, in a heavily competitive field.

In the 1-meter dive two days prior, Belson picked up her third All-American title in her two-year career as a Bomber. Placing fourth, she garnered 424.20 points in the field of 21 participants, where Maria Zarka from Kenyon College won the event.

Fellow teammate Helly finished in 12th place in the 1-meter dive with 418.0 to earn her first career All-American recognition as an honorable mention after qualifying in the preliminaries.

She would go on to place 15th in the 3-meter dive after scoring 406.80 points.

The Bombers placed 20th with a combined 37 team points to conclude the Bombers swimming and diving seasons. Emory College won the four-day competition at the Greensboro Aquatics Center for the seventh consecutive year.
