Women’s Tennis: Team stays undefeated with win against SUNY-Cortland

The women’s tennis team remained undefeated with a  5-4 win yesterday afternoon against SUNY-Cortland. The Bombers swept three doubles matches and sealed the victory with two wins in single matches.

The Blue and Gold’s clinching singles victories came from freshman Cary Siegal and sophomore Becky Guzzo. Siegal won a three set match against SUNY-Cortland senior Gabriela Medina 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. Guzzo won her match against unbeaten SUNY-Cortland senior Alyssa Tretter in third singles 6-3, 6-1 .

Junior Allison Young teamed up with Guzzo to win 8-2 at first double and joined senior captain Becky Campbell to win at second doubles by the same score. Freshman Allison Vizggaitis and senior Laurel Salladay were 8-0 winners at third doubles.

Senior captain Kelsey Harness lost her match as fourth singles against SUNY-Cortland senior Stephanie DiCapua in straight sets. Harness said she was not happy with her performance.

“Today was not a good day for me because I was not able to finish off any points,”  she said.

The Bombers will compete this weekend at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regionals at William Smith College in Geneva, N.Y.
