Wrestling: Blue and Gold wipe out competition at SUNY-Oneonta

The wrestling team won all but one of its matches in yesterday’s 40-3 dual-meet victory against SUNY-Oneonta.

The Bombers recorded bonus points in five of their nine wins with three pins and two technical falls. Senior Seth Ecker recorded his third technical fall of the season by opening up an 18-2 lead against Oneonta senior Carlos Soto after one period of the 133-pound match. The win was Ecker’s 20th of the season and leaves him two shy of becoming the 18th wrestler in the program’s history to reach 100 career victories.

Graduate student Jeremy Stierly returned from injury to record the other technical fall. He jumped out to a 17-1 lead against freshman Christian Dluginski after two periods in the 149-pound match.

Graduate student Nick Sanko, freshman Grant Dickey and senior Matt Mahon each recorded pins in their matches.

Nick’s brother Brett Sanko was the only Bomber defeated, losing a 5-4 decision to Oneonta sophomore Dan Graff.

The Blue and Gold will host Stevens Institute of Technology in their next dual-meet at 7 p.m. on Feb. 3.
