Since Fall 2019 when Ithaca College first introduced the Ithaca Forever Strategic Plan, there has been considerable frustration and confusion throughout the campus community.

Faculty Council discusses four-credit schedule

Between 2010 and 2019, the percentage of alumni who donated dropped by about half. In 2010, the rate was 12.2% and in 2019, it was 6.4%. Wendy Kobler, vice president for Philanthropy and Engagement, said the percentage was stabilizing between 6.2% to 6.4%, but for the 2020 fiscal year, the rate was 6.2%. While the national average rate of alumni who donate back to their college is only 8%, Ithaca College still falls below the average. The last year the college had an alumni donation percentage above 8% was 2015.

The rate of Ithaca College alumni donating back to the college is stabilizing after years of decreases — but at a percentage lower than the national average.
Juan Arroyo, assistant professor in the Department of Politics, said he is now facing an intense school year because of the APP. Arroyo said that when enrollment rates dropped last year, two sections were taken from his schedule, but now he “owes” the college six credits.

Recreation and leisure department opposes department cut

The Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies and community organizations its students work with are voicing their opposition to the “Shape of the College” recommendations.
The Academic Program Prioritization Implementation Committee (APPIC) released its final recommendations for the APP in the “Shape of the College” document Feb. 18. The final recommendations, like the draft document, recommend the elimination of 116 FTE faculty positions and 26 departments, programs and majors.
