What language — what rhetorical strategies — do people in leadership positions use when they attempt to pacify the public during periods of crisis? Why were President Rochon’s rhetorical appeals to the campus community unsuccessful?

Ithaca College students and alumni are expressing frustration on social media after an unaffiliated fraternity at Ithaca College sent out a Facebook invitation Oct. 9 for a party with what they are calling a racially charged theme.
Matt Orama graduated from Ithaca College in 2014. Since the AEPi and Blue Sky racial controversies, he has been involved in advocacy through several social media movements using hashtags on Facebook and Twitter.
