Editorial: New varsity athlete dress code is unnecessary and problematic

During October 2023, Ithaca College implemented a dress code for all varsity athletes that applies during practices, when traveling across campus and when using facilities in the Athletics and Events Center. These rules are a waste of resources by the college, target certain sports teams and enforce sexist standards.
Larry Hirschhorn ’80 will be the main speaker at the 2023 commencement ceremony. Senior Francesca Infante-Meehan is the Class of 2023 speaker and Loki Mullholand, a civil rights activist, filmmaker and author, will receive an honorary Doctorate of Letters.

In a statement released April 18, Ithaca College announced three commencement speakers and one honorary degree recipient. 
First-year student Claudia Homiski, a member of Ithaca Hex Quidditch, holds the quaffle while teammates and opponents surround her. Her goal is to throw it through one of the three hoops, while her opponents, called beaters, try to block it.

Quidditch team flying high to start new year

Many club teams returned to practice and play at the start of the new academic year. Among these teams was the Ithaca Hex Quidditch team, who returned to South Hill flying high with excitement.
The college implemented its updated spectator policy Jan. 12, allowing only students, faculty and staff members to attend competitions until the situation is further evaluated Feb. 7.

Track and field teams hold their first intrasquad scrimmages

As the first team to return to competition at Ithaca College, the men's and women's indoor track and field teams held an intrasquad scrimmage on Feb. 13 and 14.
Even though Ithaca College is remote for the semester, approximately 1,400 students, faculty and staff pass through the Athletics and Events Center every week to get tested for COVID-19.

IC offers COVID-19 testing for campus community members
