As the Supreme Court re-evaluates Affirmative Action, Ithaca College grapples with the debate surrounding race-based opportunities in its own community.
The event, held Feb. 14, was part of the Difficult Dialogues: Cultivating Cultures of Belonging Symposium — an event created to facilitate discussion of complex and controversial subjects by bringing guest speakers to campus to address challenging subjects.

Raja Gopal Bhattar, a diversity, equity and belonging strategist, spoke at IC about incorporating equity, inclusion and belonging into education.
The findings of The Ithacan Diversity Report shows that 33.4% of The Ithacans board is represented by persons of color (BIPOC) and 51.9% of the board identify as heterosexual.

Osorto said the majority of his work has consisted of ensuring that the college recognizes and supports the religious, spiritual and secular identities of students and working to create opportunities for campus community members to have interfaith discussions about belonging to multiple identities.

As a black Jewish woman, Yavilah McCoy said, her intersectional identity has forced her to deal with multiple kinds of oppression throughout her life. McCoy said she aims to avoid divisiveness in social justice.
