Students native to Ithaca feel changes from gentrification

In Ithaca, gentrification has been silently changing the scenery of The Commons as well as pricing out and displacing lower-income Ithacans.
Harold’s Square, a mixed-use development building with retail space and housing, is one of the projects, along with City Centre, a development offering luxury apartments.

Commons construction projects to be completed Summer 2019

Two construction projects currently underway on The Commons are expected to be completed in the summer of 2019.
The project City Centre is located on a triangular lot that wraps around the corner of East State Street and South Aurora Street. The lot previously held the Trebloc Building.

More construction projects clog up downtown Ithaca

Ithaca College students returned to campus from summer break to find another construction project underway on The Commons.
A new construction project is one step closer to becoming a reality in downtown Ithaca, at the bottom of the hill from the Ithaca College campus. The building would have 193 residential apartments and 10,800 square-feet of retail space.
