After Susan Bassett ’79 announced her plans to retire at the conclusion of the 2024-25 academic school year, the college prompted a search committee to find the best possible candidate. The committee includes current athletes, coaches and faculty members.

IC strives to cover all bases in search for its next director of athletics

The changing of the guard is an important step in determining the future of a program. For a department with a rich history such as the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Ithaca College, the search for the next athletic director is underway with a deadline of July 1, according to the athletics department.

An amazing season of Ithaca College women’s basketball came to a heartbreaking conclusion as the Bombers fell to the Vassar College Brewers 66-53 in the Liberty League Championship Tournament final on March 2 at the Ben Light Gymnasium.

Women’s basketball sweeps past RIT to advance

The Ithaca College women’s basketball team is now one step closer to Liberty League Championship Tournament glory after its 64-48 semifinal victory over the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers on Feb. 28 at the Ben Light Gymnasium.

The St. John Fisher University Cardinals’ relentless march to the free-throw line proved to be the dagger for the Ithaca College women’s basketball team, as the Cardinals cashed in on 79% of their 34 attempts to secure a hard-fought 73-67 victory.

It was a fierce battle on opening night, but the Ithaca College women’s basketball team came up just short against the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons on Nov. 14, dropping the match  65-60.
The Ithaca College’s women’s basketball team aims for a comeback after missing the NCAA Tournament last season. With new talent and strong returning players, they’re determined to reclaim their spot.

Women’s basketball alum takes coaching to the Division I level

On Sept. 13, Ithaca College women’s basketball legend Katherine Bixby ’10 was inducted into the Ithaca College Athletic Hall of Fame. However, the former All-American has continued to leave her mark on the women’s college basketball landscape, coaching at multiple levels. On Sept. 2 she accepted an assistant coaching position at the University of North Carolina.
