While there have been no immediate threats to security in these programs, David Weil, chief information officer for Information Technology, said the changes were made because of MFA’s ability to deter hacking and to better protect all student, staff and faculty accounts. 

Cyber security expands at IC with Duo authentication

Duo Multi-Factor Authentication will now be required at IC when logging into Zoom and Formstack Forms to prevent accounts from being compromised. 
The college has been dealing with phishing scams over the past several years while also taking action to prevent phishing. In 2017 there were 14 college accounts that were compromised, and in 2018 the college implemented Duo Multifactor Authentication to increase security when accessing the college’s email service and affiliated websites.

College creates new system to report phishing

On Jan. 24, Ithaca College implemented a system to report phishing emails directly to the Information Technology’s Office of Information Security. 
Ithaca College has security filters to block suspicious emails. However, some, like the scam where  criminals pose as potential employers to get victims to buy iTunes gift cards, manage to get through.
