Voter apathy must not manifest as a lack of action on campus

For many college students, it may feel as though you have been inundated with information about the upcoming presidential election, the youth vote and the importance of using your voice to enact political and social change. The important issues that galvanize young voters and exhaustion surrounding political systems exist in an era of increasing national anxiety and turbulence. While these feelings — trepidation, apathy, exhaustion — are valid, they cannot create inaction in the youth voting block or in our response to national and local political figures. Outside of the eyes fixed on the presidential race, college students should pay attention to local political figures. This includes student government officials.

Successful write-in campaign stirs conversation about Ithaca’s political climate

While some express frustration with Fourth Ward Alderperson-elect Patrick Kuehl's write-in campaign for Common Council, others raise concerns with the priorities and tactics of the Solidarity Slate and local Working Families Party club, including incumbent Fourth Ward Alderperson Jorge Defendini's sudden attempt to unseat WFP leadership.

SGC shares election votes after controversial decision to withhold counts

Vote counts from the Spring 2023 Ithaca College Student Governance Council elections revealed that first-year student Matthew Williams — who was disqualified — beat the elected president by 83 votes.

SGC talks with IT and passes bill to restructure elections

Members of the Student Governance Council discussed technology advances at Ithaca College with the Innovative Technologies Committee and passed a bill.
All 10 of the Common Council seats will open up this year with all the members’ terms ending Dec. 31 and each seat will be filled after a primary election in June and the general election in November.

Local officials begin election campaigns for Common Council

Freshmen Paloma La Valley and Noah Richardson were elected as Class of 2025 senators, freshman Vincent Tavernese was elected as the School of Music senator, sophomore Casey Ingraham was elected as transfer senator and junior Lauren Hitesman was elected as varsity athlete senator.

SGC elects new senators for Spring 2018
