Citizens across the United States and the state of New York are voting in the 2016 election Nov. 8.
During a meeting April 29, Ithaca College faculty and administrators announced a proposal to split up the Department of Sport Management and Media in an attempt to better organize the programs. However, students have criticized the decision, saying they feel they were not included in the process.
During the Fall 2015 semester, colleges and universities across the country were rocked by student protests addressing racial tensions on campuses. Ithaca College was also affected by these issues, and it is among many other institutions that are now trying to heal their communities while also facing losses in enrollment and retention.
Elijah Breton, senior sports studies and communications studies double major, recently announced he will be running for District 65 of the Maine House of Representatives in the November 2016 election season.
Ithaca College’s speech and debate team recently won first place in the debating event of the Suffolk Fall Classic Speech and Debate Tournament. At the end of the competition, the top three spots were held by the college’s team.
Over 200 Ithaca College students, faculty and staff gathered at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 21 around Free Speech Rock to protest against racism on campus and to demand action from administration, with a number of members of the Ithaca College Board of Trustees in the audience.
Ithaca College is planning on administering a new campus-climate survey next fall, four years after the previous climate survey, which revealed a stark perception gap between different groups regarding diversity and inclusivity on campus.

A group of senators within the Ithaca College Student Government Association are displeased with the handling of the organization’s Appropriations Committee, saying the SGA executive board members violated the group’s constitution by voting on certain occasions when the committee allocated funds to student organizations.
The Ithaca College Student Government Association passed a bill March 16 to create an online system to report microaggressions, which sponsors of the bill said will create a more conducive environment for victims to speak about microaggressions.
