Rifkin proposes faculty search budget changes to Faculty Council

Provost Benjamin Rifkin proposed changes, including creating more college-wide consistency and lowering spending in the faculty candidate search process at his first faculty council meeting Sept. 1.
Benjamin Rifkin, provost and vice president for educational affairs at Ithaca College, will resign July 31 and return to teaching. He joined the college in June 2015.

Ithaca College cannot claim its students are the top priority if the administration is not willing to provide the necessary support.
“Frankly, if I were a member of the [Ithaca College Board of Trustees,] I wouldn’t have voted for a budget with such vagueness,” John Rosenthall,  executive committee member and professor of mathematics, said. “But they approved it.”

The Ithaca College Faculty Council discussed potential negative impacts of next year’s school budget on the faculty and the administration’s rejection of the council’s suggestion to hire another full-time staff member for the Office of Counseling and Wellness at its meeting March 17.
Peter Rothbart, professor of music theory, history and composition, has been at the college for 35 years and is in his third year as the chair of Faculty Council.
