Ithaca College Faculty Council selects new leadership

The Faculty Council concluded the spring semester by welcoming in new council leadership and addressing goals that Benjamin Rifkin, provost and vice president for educational affairs, has for the coming year.
Professors at Ithaca College are paid less than their counterparts at similar four-year private colleges in New York state, according to data from The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Professors at Ithaca College are paid less than their counterparts at similar four-year private colleges in New York state. Despite this data, some faculty and administrators believe it is not fair to compare these other institutions in New York state to the college.
Carla Golden, professor in the Department of Psychology, spoke to the Ithaca College Faculty Council at its April 5 meeting about concerns she had with the phased retirement. At the meeting, the council addressed confusion around whether or not faculty members lose the rights of tenure when they begin the process of phased retirement.

The Ithaca College Faculty Council has addressed confusion around whether or not faculty members lose the rights of tenure when they begin the process of phased retirement.
John Rosenthal, council member and professor in the Department of Mathematics presented the summary of the approved budget for the 2016–17 fiscal year to the council at the March 22 meeting. Rosenthal said he was concerned with the ambiguity of where and how much money is being spent for each school.

Faculty Council criticizes lack of budget transparency

The Faculty Council is planning to distribute Ithaca College’s budget to all faculty with the attached criticism that it is “deeply lacking detail.” The council is also preparing to launch its diversity and inclusion database by the end of this week.

Ithaca College announces presidential search committee

Ithaca College has announced the members of the search committee for the college’s ninth president. The committee of 15 is made up of six members of the Ithaca College Board of Trustees, one dean, three faculty members, two staff members, two students and one alumni representative.
Chris McNamara, Clinical Assistant Professor and Clinic Director in the physical therapy department, updated Faculty Council on the progress of the Shared Governance Task Force at the March 1 meeting. The part-time faculty union contract and the proposed changes to the Meal and Entertainment Policy were also discussed.
