She said she believes ageism is something that deters students from majoring or minoring in aging studies. “There’s, I guess I have to call it an ‘ick factor,’” Erickson said.
Harpist and IC affiliate Anna O’Connell performed examples of therapeutic harp music during the Community-Based Learning Spotlight Event hosted by the Office of Civic Engagement and the Center for Faculty Excellence on April 4 in McHenry Lounge in the Whalen Center for Music. The event reintroduced the Music as Medicine Project and highlighted students’ work with the initiative.

Mary Ann Erickson is an associate professor at Ithaca College as well as chair of the Gerontology  Institute. She teaches Aging Studies classes and two Integrative Core Curriculum seminars.
