Holocaust survivor shares his story for the International Remembrance Day

In honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, students and guests gathered in Emerson Suites and heard from Jewish Holocaust survivor Samuel Rind on Feb. 1.  The Ithaca College Student Leadership Institute and Ithaca College Hillel brought in Rind to share his personal story in relation to the Holocaust. Rind, who visited and spoke to students at the college in 2017, is a regular speaker on college campuses and across the Western New York area. 
Roald Hoffmann, former Cornell professor, Nobel Prize winner and an Ithaca local, visited campus April 25 in Muller chapel to tell his story of surviving the Holocaust.

Hillel invites Holocaust survivor to share personal story

Roald Hoffmann, age 85, was invited to Ithaca College on April 25 by Hillel at Ithaca College to tell his life story. 
IC Hillel, the Center for IDEAS and the college’s senior leadership collaborated to hold the “IC Day of Learning: Grappling with Antisemitism”  from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m Feb. 28 in Emerson Suites.

Approximately 40 Holocaust survivors come to Nachas (Yiddish for “joy”) to interact with other survivors, study the Torah, exercise and eat. 
Rita Melen, a second-generation Holocaust survivor, shared her story about growing up in  Japanse-occupied Shanghai. She also brought artifacts that belonged to her family.
