Allison Frisch, assistant professor in the Ithaca College Department of Journalism, co-wrote a paper that won first place in the International Society of Weekly Newspaper Editors (ISWNE) competition for papers on the topic of “Strengthening Community Journalism.”

Jenni Monet reports on the history of violence and injustice against Native Americans for Indigenously. Monet has a free weekly newsletter that gives attention to issues like the disproportionate deaths and disappearances of Native women and girls that larger media fails to address as a constant experience for the community. 

IC announces the 2022 annual Izzy Award winners

Park Center for Independent Media has announced its 2022 Izzy Award winners including two journalists and three media outlets.
Smith said he became interested in the McDonald case after Slate Magazine published an article by Jamie Kalven in February 2015. The article stated that the police lied to the public about McDonald’s death. The police report said he was killed by a single shot whereas the autopsy report said he was shot a total of 16 times from different directions.

Independent journalist speaks about accountability journalism
