During the 2024 season, the Ithaca College baseball team has dealt with persistent weather delays. The South Hill Squad has played only three games on Freeman Field thus far, compared to the 10 originally scheduled.

Fielding the unpredictable: Ithaca College baseball’s continuous weather struggle

With upstate New York weather being as unpredictable as it is, the Ithaca College baseball team has had to make numerous adjustments this season to accommodate a weather-intolerant field. Freeman Field is a natural dirt and grass field, not a synthetic surface, which means it cannot be plowed or played on while wet.

The Ithaca College baseball team played their first game at Freeman Field this season on April 1. In a game that lasted 10 innings, the Bombers came up on top 4–3 against the St. John Fisher University Cardinals to extend their win streak to six games.
Junior Pitcher Colin Leyner holds the mound down for the Bombers. In seven inning pitched, Leyner struck out seven batters and only allowed five total hits.

Coming off a tough 14–8 loss from the SUNY Oswego Lakers on March 16, the Ithaca College baseball team bounced back in a doubleheader against the Clarkson University Golden Knights on March 26 at Booth Field.
The Ithaca College baseball and softball teams take long road trips each season. Neither team will return to its home field until baseball returns March 22 and softball returns March 23.

Members of Ithaca College’s softball and baseball teams will have to wait a few weeks into the season to enjoy home-field advantage, but that will not stop players from making the most of the start of the season.

Baseball puts league championship chase into full swing

The Ithaca College baseball team came up short in the NCAA playoffs last year when they fell to the No. 4 Endicott College Gulls 12–10 and 7–3 in the NCAA Super Regional. The Bombers will be looking to rectify their early exit last year and go all the way to the World Series.
The Ithaca College baseball team held on for a 13–7 victory over Hamilton College on April 5. The win improved the Bombers record to 15–5.

The Ithaca College baseball team has posted an impressive record of 15–5 to begin the season, bolstered by solid team chemistry which should play an important role.
