Announced merger raises tension between faculty and administration

On Jan. 25, Ithaca College announced the formation of a new school, called the School of Music Theatre and Dance.
After Shirley M. Collado, former president of Ithaca College, departed her position, the college has established a new scholarship that will aim to give tuition assistance to first-generation students in her name.

Collado will be receiving the Latin honor President Emerita — a Latin honors distinction awarded when one leaves an institution that allows them to retain the title of their position.

Ithaca College Board of Trustees approves tuition increase

The Ithaca College Board of Trustees approved an increase in tuition and room and board costs for the 2022–23 academic year at its October 2021 meeting.

The Ithaca College Board of Trustees hosted a virtual discussion Oct. 25 on Zoom with the campus community to discuss the presidential search and students' mental health.
Dan Breen, associate professor in the Department of English and president of the college’s AAUP chapter, said using a search firm can potentially be expensive and may not necessarily produce a better candidate. Using executive search firms to search for president or provost positions can cost public universities up to $100,000 and potentially more.
