Senior Abigail Aitken earned the award for an essay she wrote about storytelling and its intersection with environmentalism.  The C.P. Snow Scholar award is presented to one or two students who compose an essay that demonstrates how their academics and extracurricular achievements combine both the humanities and the sciences.

Ithaca College senior Abigail Aitken was announced as the 2022–23 C.P. Snow Scholar on April 27.

The Ithaca College Board of Trustees elected Kirk Harbinger ’89 to a four-year term as alumni trustee at its recent meetings, according to an Intercom post. 
Michael Richardson, director and chair of the Screen Cultures Program, said he believes that neither cinema and photography nor film, photography and visual arts -- the college’s existing film-focused majors -- provide the same insight that will be brought to light by the new program. 

School of Humanities and Sciences finalizes new major

Some students and faculty at the college have expressed their excitement for Ithaca College’s new screen cultures major, which is beginning this fall.
Freshman Sam Pekola studies in the honors student lounge in the Peggy Ryan Williams Center. The honors program will be moving from the garden level of the Peggy Ryan Williams Center to Mueller Faculty Center in Summer 2020.

School of H&S to offer new data science minor

The Ithaca College School of Humanities and Sciences is offering a new minor in data science. The minor requires 27–30 credits.
La Jerne Cornish, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, and Hayley Harris, vice president for human resources and planning, made the announcement to the campus community Nov. 14. According to the email, the moves address the goals of advancing the Campus Master Plan in the college’s five-year strategic plan.

Ithaca College will relocate offices and departments to advance the Campus Master Plan and help to centralize the School of Humanities and Sciences.
Stephan Lefebvre, Diversity Scholars Fellow in the Department of Economics and a predoctoral student at American University, is researching wealth, racial inequality and Latino studies. The School of Humanities and Sciences opens the Diversity Fellowship Program to diverse scholars who are preparing for future positions at colleges and universities.

Civil rights attorney discusses rise of hate crimes in U.S.

A forum was held Sept. 10 at Ithaca College about rise of hate crimes and white supremacy in the U.S. and how students can combat hateful language. 
Melanie Stein, the new dean of the Ithaca College School of Humanities and Sciences, dons her H&S hat. Stein said she wants students and faculty in the school to have a stronger identity.
