The Ithaca College Student Governance Council invited the executive board members of several student groups on campus to discuss their clubs and what their plans are for the future.Â
Stanley Bazile, vice president for Student Affairs and Campus Life, spoke with the Ithaca College Student Governance Council on Oct. 28 about suicide awareness. The council asked Bazile questions about the purpose of the Office of Student Affairs and Campus Life and student civil disobedience on campus. The SGC also heard from Samantha Shaffer, associate director for Student Conduct and Community Standards, about proposed changes to the college’s Student Code of Conduct.
The Ithaca College Student Governance Council met Sept. 30 to hear from the Office of Residential Life about renovations being done to residence halls and a new housing deposit for rising seniors.Â
For many college students, it may feel as though you have been inundated with information about the upcoming presidential election, the youth vote and the importance of using your voice to enact political and social change. The important issues that galvanize young voters and exhaustion surrounding political systems exist in an era of increasing national anxiety and turbulence.
While these feelings — trepidation, apathy, exhaustion — are valid, they cannot create inaction in the youth voting block or in our response to national and local political figures. Outside of the eyes fixed on the presidential race, college students should pay attention to local political figures. This includes student government officials.Â
Living on campus can be an overwhelming experience, which can make it seem impossible to truly feel at home. During my time at Ithaca College, I have learned that the best way to create that sense of home is through campus involvement. Getting involved is not just a way to fill my schedule, it is about finding my place in a community and growing as a person.
The Ithaca College Student Governance Council (SCG) met May 6 to have its first meeting with the newly elected members of SGC and hold confirmations for the positions of senate chair, club athlete senator and senator-at-large.
The Ithaca College Student Governance Council released the elected candidates who will serve on the executive board and senate for the 2024–25 academic year on May 3 in an Intercom post. Candidates ran for 13 positions out of 32 open positions across the e-board and senate, which all have year long terms.
The Ithaca College Student Governance Council met April 29 to pass three bills regarding time extension when presenting bills, an ad-hoc committee to change orientation to further support incoming students from underrepresented backgrounds, and providing a senator position for the Students of Color Coalition.
The Ithaca College Student Governance Council had their annual spring platform presentations April 23 for candidates to serve in the Fall 2024 semester.
The Ithaca College Student Governance Council met March 4 to have dinner with the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management and discuss a bill presented by the Campus Affairs Committee about senator involvement on committees.
