The Ithaca College Student Governance Council met May 5 for its last meeting of the semester and the first with the newly elected members of the council. Rishabh Sen, president of the student body, introduced confirmations in which new members who did not run in the elections get voted into their new roles.

The Ithaca College Student Governance Council held its platform presentations for candidates running for SGC executive board and senator positions for the 2025-26 academic year.
SGC was joined by Casey Kendall, deputy chief information officer and associate vice president of applications and infrastructure; and Jenna Lamb, coordinator for AI initiatives and senior IT project manager. Kendall is the chair and Lamb is the coordinator of the Presidential Working Group on AI — a team of two students, three faculty and seven staff — formed in July 2024 to recommend guidelines for the use of AI that aligns with the college’s Vision, Mission and Values statement to the president and her cabinet.
The Ithaca College Student Governance Council met Feb. 3 to discuss upcoming changes to first-year student housing selection for Fall 2025.
SGC was joined by Stanley Bazile, vice president of Student Affairs and Campus Life; Laura Davis, director and interim assistant dean of Students in the Office of Residential Life; and Eileen Roth, assistant director for Residential Education and Assessment in Res Life.

Stanley Bazile, vice president for Student Affairs and Campus Life, spoke with the Ithaca College Student Governance Council on Oct. 28 about suicide awareness. The council asked Bazile questions about the purpose of the Office of Student Affairs and Campus Life and student civil disobedience on campus. The SGC also heard from Samantha Shaffer, associate director for Student Conduct and Community Standards, about proposed changes to the college’s Student Code of Conduct.

The Ithaca College Student Governance Council met Sept. 30 to hear from the Office of Residential Life about renovations being done to residence halls and a new housing deposit for rising seniors.
For many college students, it may feel as though you have been inundated with information about the upcoming presidential election, the youth vote and the importance of using your voice to enact political and social change. The important issues that galvanize young voters and exhaustion surrounding political systems exist in an era of increasing national anxiety and turbulence.
While these feelings — trepidation, apathy, exhaustion — are valid, they cannot create inaction in the youth voting block or in our response to national and local political figures. Outside of the eyes fixed on the presidential race, college students should pay attention to local political figures. This includes student government officials.
Living on campus can be an overwhelming experience, which can make it seem impossible to truly feel at home. During my time at Ithaca College, I have learned that the best way to create that sense of home is through campus involvement. Getting involved is not just a way to fill my schedule, it is about finding my place in a community and growing as a person.
The Ithaca College Student Governance Council (SCG) met May 6 to have its first meeting with the newly elected members of SGC and hold confirmations for the positions of senate chair, club athlete senator and senator-at-large.
