Ithaca’s Starbucks workers join national fight for labor unions

Junior Gillian Rossbach and sophomore Alyssa Salerno, who are Starbucks employees, have signed a petition to form a labor union at a local Starbucks.
Businesses across the U.S. have been impacted by the labor shortage, which has been heavily influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic. As of Sept. 3, 8.4 million people were unemployed in the U.S., and on the last business day of July, there were 10.9 million job openings, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

New freshman orientation schedule receives mixed reactions

The 2019 freshman orientation received mixed reviews after being condensed into eight days of events instead of across weekends during the summer.
The Department of New Student and Transition Programs is looking to hire 100 individuals for its orientation staff for the new orientation model. The number decreased due to challenges in recruiting.
