For seven Ithaca College athletics teams, their competitive seasons last only from mid-August to early November. In that time in 2025, new faces stepped into new roles, storylines evolved and Bombers victories occurred. After the Ithaca College women’s soccer team won the Liberty League Championship Tournament and made a run to the NCAA semifinals in 2024, one of the most important questions of the offseason was who would replace star goalkeeper Grace Hickey ’25. This fall, sophomore Katrina Varnum has been making her case to be the one.

On a frigid and gray Saturday afternoon, the Ithaca College women’s soccer team took the field for its final regular season game against the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers on Nov. 2. The Bombers consistently capitalized on gaps in the Engineers’ defense, securing a first-place finish in the Liberty League with a 3-0 win.
Graduate student midfielder Sarah Sinnott came to Ithaca College after graduating from the University of Pittsburgh to obtain her masters in mental performance, with a concentration in sports psychology. She became a standout player for the Bombers’ women's soccer team, bringing her experience and the force of Division I play to the Division III field.Â
The Ithaca College women’s soccer team won a hard-fought game on Carp Wood Field Oct. 5. The crowd exploded for senior midfielder Julia Cascone’s Olimpico goal, breaking an 87-minute drought, and the expected tie.Â
The Bombers played an electric — yet low-scoring — game against the University of Rochester Yellowjackets this Friday, Sept. 27 at Carp Wood Field. It was an incredibly hard-fought game, with Rochester scoring a game-tying goal with three minutes left. the battle ending in a Both teams rallied for their players the entire game, which ended in a 1-1 tie.Â
The Ithaca College Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) organized a team for the annual Polar Plunge on March 23, an event aimed at raising money and awareness for athletes competing in the Special Olympics.Â
The team boasts a strong defensive squad up the roster, but the leader of the defense has been junior goalkeeper Grace Hickey. So far this season, Hickey posts a 9–2–4 record and has only allowed six goals, adding 10 shutouts to her statistics.
On Oct. 24, the Ithaca College women’s soccer team took on the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers at Carp Wood Field where both benches were electric from the start.Â
