The City of Ithaca announced Feb. 2 that the first “bloc” of buildings that have already been electrified or are in the process of being electrified have been identified.

Eco-Reps plan for major outreach after a year of struggles

In recent years, IC Eco-Reps was forced to scale back as reduced funding and staff cutbacks left the program without staff to advocate for the students.
Common Council Representative Laura Lewis was assigned as acting mayor by former mayor Svante Myrick. Lewis will be retaining her vote and seat on the Common Council as the Fifth Ward alderperson until the next election.

As the presidential search continues, the search committee needs to take the potential president’s stance on the Ithaca Green New Deal into consideration
The official name of the decarbonization plan is the Efficiency Retrofitting and Thermal Load Electrification Program and the plan is starting with the electrification of buildings, which means changing energy in homes that use fossil fuels to electric technologies. Nationally, residential and commercial buildings account for 40% of greenhouse gas emissions. 

City of Ithaca to become 100% decarbonized by 2030
