Early social connections lead to collegiate success

Students who make friends and form positive bonds in college are more likely to be academically successful and to ultimately graduate.
Orientation for freshmen and transfer students was held from Aug. 16 to 21, with an option for students to arrive Aug. 14 and participate in Jumpstart programs. Orientation is organized by the Office of New Student and Transition Programs, while Jumpstart is organized by the Office of Student Engagement.

Pre-semester programs see increase in attendance

New students flooded onto the IC campus throughout the week of Aug. 15 to attend pre-semester programming which had greater engagement than previous years.
Jumpstart is a program for incoming freshmen and transfer students. Students can choose from four program tracks that introduce them to the city of Ithaca.

Ithaca College freshman Marissa Booker volunteered with Jumpstarts Community Plunge on Aug. 20–22. Her original service project was to petition to raise the minimum wage in Tompkins County, but requested to change projects because it went against her values.
