Mike Blakely-Armitage 00, the head mens and womens swimming and diving coach, has put a stronger emphasis on team culture outside of the pool this season. Blakely-Armitage replaced long-time head coach Kevin Markwardt after 36 seasons.

The Ithaca College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams have recently moved on from two longtime coaches. This season, with new voices in leadership, the Bombers have continued to have success in the pool while also placing an emphasis on success outside the pool.

Men’s swim and dive boasts championship hope in the pool

On Oct. 14, the Ithaca College men’s swim and dive team returned to the pool, earning themselves a big win over the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Engineers and Hobart College Statesmen, with their sights set yet again on dethroning defending Liberty League champion, the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Following the 2022–23 academic year, the Ithaca College athletic department initiated a string of new hires including five coaches and two administrators.

Swimming and diving coach transitions into new role

The Ithaca College swimming and diving program is currently in the midst of its first full season with Kevin Markwardt as the head coach for both the men’s and women’s teams.
Junior Ethan Godfrey is returning this season as one of the teams top divers. He won the Liberty League title in the 3-meter diving event in his freshman year.
