A total of four Ithaca College athletes won national titles over the past week, garnering two individual NCAA championships each for the Bombers’ track and field and swimming and diving programs.
Ithaca College has joined a growing list of colleges and universities that offer designated “safe spaces” for members of the campus community. The creation of this space at the college, called the “multicultural student lounge,” comes as institutions across the nation are debating what these spaces are and what their place is in higher education.
“Make tuition free.” “Bernie 2k16.” “I’m late for class to write on a ball.” These are a few of the many messages scrawled in Sharpie across a giant beach ball inside the Campus Center on April 11.
Students protesting the racial climate at Ithaca College are not the only ones finding a collective voice with which to address institutionalized racism. In a tumultuous fall semester, at least 75 other colleges and universities have begun bringing their demands for change to their administrations.
