The college recently announced that it has semifinalists for the newly established the vice president for human and organizational development, innovation and planning position. The college has not disclosed the names or the number of semifinalists.

College restructures staff compensation program

The Ithaca College Staff Compensation Program is in the final stretch of its structure and program redesign.
Hosting the events were the two co-chairs of the selection committee, Diane Gayeski, dean of the Roy H. Park School of Communications, and Marc Israel, assistant provost of finance and administrative operations. Previously, the position was held by Brian Dickens from February 2016 to July 2018 and was formerly called the vice president of the Office of Human Resources.

Rothschild Place, a temporary structure that has been on Ithaca College’s campus for over a decade has operated under a temporary occupancy permit since its creation. Despite moving from a temporary to a permanent occupancy permit in August, there are no plans to build a permanent structure in the near future.

Rothschild Place, a temporary structure on Ithaca College’s campus built in 2004 to house department overflow, has been operating under a temporary occupancy permit since its creation. However, the college applied for and was granted a permanent occupancy permit for the building Aug. 2. Despite this change, there are no plans at this time to renovate or build a permanent structure.
Ithaca College is currently determining how it will comply with the new overtime rule, a change to the Fair Labor Standards Act by the U.S. Department of Labor, which makes more full-time salaried employees eligible for overtime pay by raising the minimum threshold for salaries.

A new federal regulation will change the way that higher education institutions compensate employees for overtime hours, causing uncertainty at Ithaca College about which positions will be covered under the new rule. The college has determined that 100 staff positions could face either increases to their salaries or overtime pay.
At Ithaca College, there is not a distinct maternity or paternity leave policy, according to the college’s website, and some faculty said they wish there were clearer guidelines regarding parental leave.

Twelve percent of U.S. private-sector workers have access to paid family leave through their employer, according to the U.S. Department of Labor website. While Ithaca College is part of this 12 percent, some faculty on campus said they wish there were clearer guidelines regarding parental leave.
Roger Richardson, associate provost for diversity, inclusion and engagement, was announced by President Tom Rochon on Nov. 10 as the interim chief diversity officer. According to a recent announcement, it is unclear whether a permanent person will be hired for the position.

In a recent announcement, the college laid out parts of the diversity action plan that are on track — such as developing a Fall 2016 campus-climate survey — and parts of the plan that are falling behind — such as developing a community review board for the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management.
