Public Safety hosts workshop on sexual-assault investigations

The Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management hosted a two-day workshop for law enforcement officials with hopes of strengthening techniques applied to sexual-assault investigations.

From Mario Kart–style golf-cart chases, to a string of stolen traffic cones, to nighttime trespassers in the natural lands, members of the Student Auxiliary Safety Patrol — now in its 45th year as a student organization — said they have experienced it all while pursuing their mission to make the Ithaca College campus safer.
Tiffani Ziemann, Title IX Coordinator, receives complaints of sexual harassment, sexual assault and discrimination at Ithaca College. The office of Title IX will receive an increase in funding for the 2016–17 academic year, the first time it will have a dedicated budget.

The report of two rapes, which took place between August and October 2015 and appeared in the Feb. 4 Public Safety Log, has brought increased attention to Ithaca College’s policies for victims of sexual assault and harassment.
Ronald Trunzo, associate director of the Office of Residential Life and associate director of the Office of Judicial Affairs, said roommate conflicts are a common occurrence.
