A majority of faculty members have voted no confidence in President Tom Rochon as the results of the Faculty Council no confidence vote were released the morning of Dec. 14.
The Ithaca College Board of Trustees asked the Faculty Council to pick two faculty members to serve on a task force evaluating the governance structure at the college.
According to a statement the council released, the vote will be sent out to all eligible faculty voters Nov. 30, and voting will end at 5 p.m. Dec. 11 on SurveyMonkey.
The Faculty Council created a diversity and inclusion task force to organize information and formulate a plan to combat problems of racial tensions on campus.
Following rallies about the racial climate on campus, Ithaca College will hold an event titled “Addressing Community Action on Racism and Cultural Bias,” which aims to list possible actions about this issue that could be undertaken immediately.
Ithaca College Faculty Council discussed conflicts between classes and sports in the 4–6 p.m. time slot and heard a presentation on the college’s budget from Gerald Hector, vice president of the Division of Finance and Administration, at the Oct. 6 Faculty Council meeting.
The Ithaca College Faculty Council and Benjamin Rifkin, provost and vice president for educational affairs, are reviving conversations around improving the current system of Shared Governance at the college.
